Abstract

The Canton of Jura is a region that is becoming increasingly attractive to residents. In the past 3 years, the number of residents has changed to 74’548 inhabitants, which is equivalent to a population change of 1.14%.

Demographic data

Average income is CHF 62’310. 13.92% of the population have a university degree, 8.7% have a higher vocational training qualification, 49.18% of the population have an SEK II qualification (school-leaving certificate or apprenticeship), 27.2% of residents are currently completing compulsory schooling and 0.97% of the population did not specify their highest level of education. This means the area has high social standards and an educated population. The current unemployment rate is 1.97%.

Taxes

Overall, the tax percentage in the area is 13.97%. The individual percentage of tax actually paid varies and is based on factors such as specific income, marital status, the total amount of deductions and the like. On average, a married couple on a pension pays 17.72% and a childless, married couple pays 12.44%. Married couples with two children pay an average of 9.51% and the rate of taxation for a single person with no children is 19.32%.

New construction

The number of newly built apartments in the Canton of Jura has changed consistently for 5 years. A total of 1948 new apartments were created. One-room apartments comprise 51 of the new builds – ideal for people living alone. Alongside apartments that had already been built, 315 new 2-room apartments have been constructed. With 479 new 3-room apartments and 518 4-room apartments, the residential area is perfect for families. The new dwellings include 381 5-room apartments and 204 apartments with a minimum of 6 rooms.

Thanks to the newly constructed buildings, the housing stock in the Canton of Jura has changed and there are now a total of 41’350 apartments. A total of 1438 1-room apartments are available. The total number of properties amounts to 4146 apartments with 2 rooms, 9378 apartments with 3 rooms and 11’719 apartments with 4 rooms. There are 8378 5-room apartments and 6291 large apartments with at least 6 rooms.

Vacant apartments

The 3.05% of apartments in the Canton of Jura are uninhabited. This means that 2.99% of the 1-room apartments, 4.49% of the 2-room apartments, 4.7% of all 3-room apartments, 2.99% of the 4-room apartments and 1.77% of apartments with 5 rooms are currently unoccupied.
